2010 Motocross of Nations Moto 2 Race Report – Australia sitting in sixth position
Race 2 of the Motocross of Nations is a mix of the MX2 and the Open class, and what a race! In the first 10 minutes, the top three riders had a massive jousting match for first place, between New Zealand’s Ben Townley, German’s Ken Roczen and Team USA’s Andrew Short.
Roczen and Townley made a power play on the leader, Andrew Short. Townley and Short got in the way of each other, and Short went down hard. It took him a minute to get back on the bike, taking him from first to 22.
The French rider, Marvin Musquin, had a DNF in both Moto’s, which leaves the French team out of a podium finish.
Jay Marmont stayed in a steady seventh place through most of the moto. But, he had Trey Canard contest his position and Canard eventually got the better of Marmont and overtook him. Moments later, Canard almost lost the back-end through the downhill, sandy section that Thunder Valley is renowned for. Marmont had trouble towards the end of the moto, and crashed on the second last lap and dropped back to eighteenth place.
After Short went down, Kyle Regal moved up to take a run for first. With two minutes to go, Regal overtook Ken Roczen, putting him in second. Ben Townley held first place through most of the moto, but Regal and Roczen where right behind him the entire time. Townley managed to hold it together and finished first, followed by Regal and Roczen.
Short spent the rest of the moto fighting back and moving through the ranks — getting up after his earlier crash, which put him in 22. He ended up finishing in 13 place, with a good recovery.
With one race to go, there is no clear winner. It’s looking like Germany, USA and Belgium will be going all out in the final moto with 6 points difference between the top 3. Stay tuned for more info as we bring you all the information as it happens, on Transmoto.
