Product: Bridgestone Battlecross Tyres

Think back; it wasn’t so many years ago that you almost had to be riding on Bridgestone rubber if you wanted to win top-level MX and SX titles. For supercross, in particular, the Japanese-made Bridgestone tyres were widely regarded as the best that money could buy. But over the past five or six years, fresh off-road hoops from brands such as Dunlop and Pirelli have certainly taken the challenge up to Bridgestone. And while Bridgestone has poured huge resources into the development of their control tyres for both the MotoGP and F1 in recent years, their share of the dirt bike tyre market has suffered to some degree.

Well, all that is set to change with the arrival of Bridgestone’s all-new Battlecross range of off-road tyres. Distributed in Australia by McLeod Accessories, the new Battlecross tyres are claimed to be “the world’s most technically advanced MX tyres”. So, what’s so special about this Battlecross range, which comes in a range of MX and enduro sizes, and in both X30 (intermediate terrain) and X40 (hard terrain) options? Here’s a snapshot of their standout features:

  • All Battlecross fronts come in an asymmetric tread pattern, optimised block placement and new polymer-enhanced compounds to produce more grip in a wider variety of terrain.
  • The Battlecross rears get a raised castle-block tread pattern (a taller block within a block) and unique cooling fins moulded onto their sidewalls to prevent degradation (thermal imaging confirms that the carcass runs at substantially lower operating temperatures).
  • The combination of the X30 and X40’s new block placement and compounds is said to “massively improve braking and cornering performance” when compared to their M403/404 and M603/604 predecessors, respectively.

The X30 intermediate is available in two front sizes and four rears, while the X40 has one front size and three rears. RRPs start at $109.95 for fronts and $134.95 for rears.
