BEATON & TURNER TRIUMPH IN TRARALGON

Trucks getting bogged, fastest qualifiers, dominant moto’s and class wins – Round 6 of the Australian ProMX Championship at Traralgon threw everything at Yamaha’s riders on a cold, wet and windy day. The Yamaha camp ultimately came out the other side leading the MX1, MX3 and MXW divisions with just two rounds remaining.

MX1 Championship leader Jed Beaton claimed with another dominant round win taking him to five from six for the season. Beaton has now won 11 of the 12 motos contested, and Traralgon was no different. In Moto 1, championship rival Kyle Webster charged to the front and the pair freight-trained around the sandy circuit for the best part of 15 minutes with Webster leading and Beaton. With under 10 minutes on the clock, Beaton closed up to Webster and piled on the pressure until Webster made a mistake and went down, leaving Beaton to ride away with the moto win.

Moto 2 saw teammate Aaron Tanti lead the way early but the same story repeated as Beaton closed in and Tanti went down in almost the exact same spot Webster. Beaton inherited the lead and didn’t relinquish it to claim his Round 6 sweep. With two rounds remaining, Beaton leads the MX1 championship by 64 points over Webster, with Tanti a single point further back in third.

Jed Beaton:
“I probably didn’t ride great in the first moto to be honest, and I just had it in my mind to get through race one and then really attack in race two. So, to finish the day with another 1-1 and increase the lead was a good result and awesome to do it with so many people here to cheer me on. The boys out the back with the chainsaws were waving me on every lap and it’s good we are getting some passionate support at the races. It makes for a better day. Thanks to the team for all the hard work – days like today are never easy – and hopefully we get some warmer weather at the final two rounds in Queensland.”

Tanti continues to be the quiet achiever of the MX1 class in 2026, and Traralgon was another podium to add to the tally now that he’s back to full health and fitness. A 3-3 result left him tied on points with Nathan Crawford (4-2) and Kyle Webster (2-4), with the better final-moto finish deciding the placings – Crawford second, Tanti third, Webster fourth.

Aaron Tanti:
“Getting on the podium is a good result for me and I’m happy to come away third. Sand-based tracks like this have never been my greatest strength, so to put in two solid rides and even lead race two for a while made it a good day, and it was important I didn’t lose any points to Kyle in the championship. I’m really enjoying racing at the moment, and the team is working well. Jed and I have been on the podium together a few times this year and it’s a good reward for the guys doing all the work behind the scenes.”

WMX is back, and with it came the return of Lachlan Turner. The 19-year-old two-time AMA champ won the opening round at Wonthaggi in March before heading back to the US to contest the AMA WMX championship, which she currently leads. With only a handful of laps to learn the Traralgon circuit – and a decent practice crash that bent up her bike – it hardly slowed her down. Turner put together two impressive moto wins to extend her championship lead.

In Moto 1, Turner shot to the front before coming under pressure from Charli Cannon, the pair coming together and both going down at a sweeping right-hander. Turner remounted in fourth, sliced her way back through the field and took a six-second win. Moto 2 was more straightforward: by the end of lap two Turner was in front, and by the flag she’d built a 40-second margin in one of her most impressive rides yet.

Lachlan Turner:
“I have had a big day. Crashed in practice and had a couple of laps to learn a new track – and no front guard, it snapped off in the crash. I then crashed in race one when Charli and I came together, but I stayed calm and got back to win the race, so by race two I was over it and just wanted to win with no mistakes. I’m having an awesome time in Australia and love coming down to race these rounds. I like that so many girls turn up and race, and we are getting more interest than before. Even the podium was full of people after the second race, and that’s cool. Thanks to the team for looking after me so well and making my mum and I feel so special.”

Noah Ferguson had an up-and-down day at Traralgon, taking pole in MX2 but coming from the back after a poor start in Moto 1 – then collecting a downed bike mid-race, which snapped his footpeg bracket and left him to circulate home in 13th. He fared better in Moto 2, running inside the top four before rallying late for fifth in the moto and eighth for the round, and sits fifth in the MX2 championship with two rounds to go. Souya Nakajima quietly put together his best overall performance of the year, qualifying and finishing both motos inside the top ten for ninth on the day – he’s 11th in the championship with a strong finish across the final two rounds able to push him as high as eighth.

MONSTER ENERGY WBR YAMAHA

It was a day of what-could-have-been for WBR Yamaha in MX3. Hayden Draper suffered a couple of uncharacteristic crashes across both motos but scrambled late in each to salvage 7-7 for eighth, and still leads the MX3 championship by 23 points. Jack Deveson was in genuine contention throughout, undone by a small fall in Moto 1 and late position changes in Moto 2, finishing 6-3 for fourth on the day and seventh in the championship. Seth Burchell had his best round of the year in MX2, going 4-7 for fifth after leading the pack early in the first race and battling through the field in the second.

GYTR YAMAHA JUNIOR RACING

Injuries have decimated the YJR roster at times this year, but the last man standing in MX3, Jobe Dunne, made the most of his opportunity – and arguably has a case as the most improved rider of the year. A stunning 2-4 for the round earned him second place, his first podium of 2026 after knocking on the door at several rounds already.
