2023 BETA XTRAINER: THE UPDATES

3 years ago | Words: Andy Wigan | Photos: Beta Motorcycles

The Xtrainer is the gift that just keeps giving for Italian manufacturer, Beta. And the fact this lightweight, rider-friendly, detuned version of its hardnosed enduro-model cousins is now the brand’s biggest-seller (in Australia and several other markets around the world) probably has a lot to do with how frequently it now comes in for upgrade attention.

Less than a year ago, we were marveling at the fact that the 2022 Xtrainer not only came with Beta’s all-new, short-stroke 300cc two-stroke engine, but also a raft of other significant updates such as clutch, starter motor and electrical system. And now, rather than simply wheeling out a tarted-up 2022-model Xtrainer for 2023 – which you could easily forgive Beta for doing – the design team has thrown another bunch of upgrades at this machine.

Here’s a snapshot of what’s new on the 2023-model Xtrainer, which comes in 250 and 300cc versions, and is expected to start arriving in Aussie dealers in January, 2023, at RRPs of $11,995 and $12,295, respectively (prices don’t include pre-delivery or on-road costs).

  • Rear subframe: The new rear subframe is now similar in design to the RR model and offers updated side panels that keep the bike narrow while enhancing the look at the same time;
  • Intake system: The redesigned rear subframe has allowed for a new airbox, which allows an increase in airflow to the engine to improve the overall throttle response. Work on the airbox has also had a positive impact on power delivery, increasing the torque of the engine at low rpm while reducing intake noise;
  • Battery: The battery is now lithium, lighter and more high-performance than its predecessor;
  • Fuel Tank: The fuel tank size has been increased to 8.8 litres without sacrificing the width of the bike. And it’s now a translucent colour so the fuel level can be easily monitored;
  • Plastics: The new fuel tank is flanked by new, more robust radiator shrouds, which are better integrated into the overall new design. Innovative, simple, modern and refined, the Xtrainer’s looks, while showing off the frame design, offers the rider a distinctive look like no other enduro model on the market; and
  • Graphics: The design of the bike is enhanced with new graphics that are similar to those on the RR models providing the characteristic Beta red in its dominant fashion.
