TwoTwo Motorsports Closes Down

Transworld Motocross has revealed that Chad Reed has officially closed the doors on TwoTwo Motorsports.

Here’s what they posted moments ago:

“It’s been a rough year for Chad Reed and after numerous setbacks there is an air of uncertainty surrounding his privately funded TwoTwo Motorsports team. Over the past six months we’ve heard of talk that 2015 is his last full year on the circuit, that the team might make another change in motorcycle brands for next season, and even thoughts of sudden retirement from the professional circuit. These last few weeks have been particularly challenging, as Reed and teammate Josh Grant missed events due to injuries (Reed sat out New Jersey while Grant skipped three of the first five Nationals), Reed quarreled with MX Sports over the inability to promote new sponsor 360fly and their camera how he wanted, and then abruptly pulled out of moto one at High Point.

Aside from his very frank interview with Steve Matthes following the Thunder Valley National, when the thirty-three-year-old stated he’s lost interest in the team and may pull the entire effort from the road, there’s been little straight talk from Reed. He’s taken to social media a handful of times recently, mostly with vague text and photos that bring even more confusion about the matter, but two particular posts hint the issue has reached its peak. In the past two days, Reed has mentioned a trip to Phoenix (home to sponsor Discount Tire) via Twitter and shared an image of an MRI machine on Instagram.

Late Wednesday night we heard talk that Reed had shut TwoTwo Motorsports, effective immediately. On Thursday morning we spoke with numerous sources that work with the team and have learned the rumour is indeed true. Expect an official announcement to come from the Reed camp soon.

We’ve learned that Reed does not plan to retire, but may surface aboard a Factory Yamaha backed bike at some point very soon. As for his large staff of talented technicians, they have already started the search for jobs within the industry.”
