Review: GoPro Hero4 Session

WHAT IS IT?

The GoPro Hero4 Session is the smallest action-based camera currently on the market. It has been designed with easy and simplistic use in mind.

WHY WE RATE IT

Weighing in at just 75 grams, the Hero4 Session allows users to easily shoot videos, photos, image bursts and timelapses, all at the click of a button. It may be tiny, but it packs some serious punch – the quality of the content it can produce is outstanding (video in 1440p at 30fps, 1080p at 60fps and 720p at 100fps for exceptionally smooth slow-motion footage, as well as 8 megapixel photos), and the thing is water resistant at up to ten metres. A small LCD screen allows you to see how long you’ve been filming for, how many photos you’ve taken, how much space is available on your Micro SD card (sold separately), battery life, WiFi/Bluetooth settings and more. Connect the Hero4 Session to your smartphone to view, save and share your content via social media, quickly and easily.

Our only gripe is that the Hero4 Session doesn’t come with a protective plastic case like other GoPro models do – instead, you get a hollow shell that holds the camera in place, and attaches to GoPro’s various mounts available. Stay away from big branches and mates that like to roost you with big rocks, and you won’t have anything to worry about. Overall, though, the GoPro Hero4 Session offers up a great user experience. We highly recommend it to those who want to capture memorable moments, but aren’t going to be going out and getting overly rough with the unit.
