A new star of Women’s Motocross has been born, with teenage sensation Meghan Rutledge taking out the 2011 Motul Pirelli Australian Women’s Motocross Championship in Coolum.
The 16-year-old from Picton, New South Wales mastered the wet and muddy conditions to win all five motos, putting together one of the most dominate performances seen at a National Championship.
Making her achievement all the more remarkable was that the 2011 Championship was the Kawasaki star’s debut at a senior National Championship event.
A delighted Rutledge said to become the latest in a long list of star riders to win the Women’s Motocross Championship was a huge honour.
“I absolutely stoked,” Rutledge said.
“It’s been my first year of seniors and to win the Australian Championship is such a big accomplishment and I’m really proud of what I’ve achieved.”
Reigning Champion Kristy Gillespie couldn’t match her untouchable rival, settling for second in four of the five motos and second overall.
Western Australian young gun Jess Moore rounded out the podium positions, with top five finishes in all motos including a second in the final race of the Championship.
2009 Champion Tori Dare and Queensland star Courtney Knight rounded out the top five finishers.
