JETT LAWRENCE WINS 2024 SUPERMOTOCROSS

2 years ago | Words: Matt Bernard

The 2024 SuperMotocross World Championship culminated in a thrilling final moto, where two brothers and teammates faced off for the sport’s top honor and the accompanying $1 million payday.

Team Honda HRC Progressive rider Jett Lawrence successfully defended his title, racing to a dominant 1-1 moto finish for first overall in the SMX Final. Last year, Jett claimed the inaugural SMX crown by winning two of the three rounds, and he repeated that success in this, the series’ sophomore year. His older brother and teammate, Hunter Lawrence, secured a victory in round 2 and finished second overall, but both brothers ended the series tied on points. Jett clinched the championship due to his two round wins compared to Hunter’s one. It was a lucrative day for the Lawrence family, with Jett earning $1 million for the championship and Hunter taking home $500,000 for his runner-up finish.

In third place at the Las Vegas event was Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Eli Tomac, who delivered solid rides with a 2-3 finish, netting him a $250,000 championship payout. Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Chase Sexton entered the Las Vegas World Championship with a chance to win the title, but his hopes were dashed when he collided with Justin Barcia on the first lap of the opening moto, forcing him to withdraw from the race with a hand injury.
