JETT LAWRENCE – 2024 AMA 450SX CHAMP!

12 months ago | Words: Matt Bernard | Photos: SupercrossLive

20-year-old Jett Lawrence secured an astonishing seventh AMA crown in a row with a solid seventh-place finish in the final 450SX AMA Supercross main event of 2024. Along with the AMA 450SX Championship, Jett was also awarded AMA 450SX Rookie of the Year.

In the decisive moments of the race, Jett Lawrence maintained his composure, knowing that even if his title rival Cooper Webb took the win, he only needed to secure 17th place or better to clinch the championship. With Webb hot on his heels in the early stages, Jett held his ground, eventually settling for seventh, avoiding risk.

ā€œI think it hasn’t fully sunk in yet, but, I mean, we had times when we sucked really bad this year then also times when we weren’t too bad, so, nah, [I’m] super happy for the team and doing it for them. They’ve been awesome. They’re family now and to give them another title is just the biggest ā€˜thank you’ to them, I feel like. So thank you to them, to everyone around me… I couldn’t do it without the team around me, I’m just super happy… [when asked to look back on what it took to get to this point] There’s so many hard moments that we’ve had that you can’t even put it in an interview, it’s just so long. No, I’m just super happy just for my family and the team and yeah, I’m just going to leave it at that because it’s too much.ā€ – Jett Lawrence

Jett’s older brother and fellow 450SX rookie, Hunter Lawrence, who had shown remarkable strength throughout the day, encountered a setback in the 450SX main event. Despite a promising start, he was knocked down in an aggressive move by Jason Anderson while contending for a spot in the top 5. Clearly displeased with Anderson’s aggressive move, Lawrence retaliated as he was being lapped by the Monster Energy Kawasaki rider, returning the favour bumping Anderson off the track. While Lawrence’s response led to a fine, the incident also hindered Anderson’s chances of vying for fourth place in the Championship standings.
