Chad Reed: SX Winner at 35?
With 44 premier-class wins in the AMA SX series, Australia’s Chad Reed sits fourth on AMA SX’s all-time win list (behind Jeremy McGrath, 72, James Stewart, 50, and Ricky Carmichael, 48). Despite not posting a race win in the past two seasons, the 35-year-old Aussie is adamant he has at least another ‘W’ in him. These days, however, Reed isn’t really focused on climbing the sport’s all-time win list. He seems much more interested in beating Mike LaRocco’s long-held record as the sport’s oldest-ever race winner, and in setting the record for the most supercross ever raced.
“Of course, winning my 45th race would be great. And so would passing the record for the most supercross ever raced. But to be honest, becoming the sport’s oldest winner is something that would really mean a lot to me.” Reed told Transmoto’s Andy Wigan while back in Oz recently on promotional duties for sponsor, Boost Mobile. “When you look at Mike LaRocco’s career and my career, I feel that I out-punch him in every area. So for him to have something that I don’t right now … well, that’s something I’d like to turn around. I want that record,” Reed went on to say.
SPEAKING OF RECORDS…
Chad Reed’s astonishing tally of 130 podiums makes him the sport’s most prolific podium placegetter ever. With 111 podiums, Jeremy McGrath runs a distant second to Reed. And incredibly, Reed and McGrath are the only two riders to have notched up more than AMA SX 100 podiums.
