Product Spotlight: Bell Moto-9s Flex (Tropical Fever) Helmet

3 years ago | Words: Andy Wigan

Not long ago, when Bell launched their all-new, top-of-the-line Moto-10 Spherical helmet, it certainly turned some heads, thanks to its long list of new features. And there was some initial confusion over whether the Moto-10 was designed to supplement Bell’s super-popular Moto-9 Carbon Flex (the iconic helmet brand’s existing premium model) or replace it all-together. Well, now the hype surrounding the Moto-10’s release has subsided somewhat, a refined Moto-9 Flex (called the Moto-9S Flex) has emerged from the shadows to remind us that it’s still very much part of Bell’s dirt bike helmet range, albeit with a tweak to its shell construction to keep it affordable and some new graphics.

For 2022, Bell’s Moto-9S Flex gets a pre-impregnated fibreglass shell (rather than the full carbon shell used by its predecessor) and comes in a bunch of fresh graphics. And one of the most striking of them is this Tagger Tropical Fever graphic – designed by legendary custom helmet painter, Tagger Designs’ Tag Gasparian. Pretty cool, huh? An off-the-shelf helmet that looks like it’s copped the full-blown custom paint job!

Like its predecessor, Bell’s Moto-9S Flex is strong and lightweight and features Bell’s time-tested traditions of performance and advanced safety standards. Packed inside are three material layers that protect at different impact speeds and redirect rotational energy, and you still get the excellent ventilation of the flexible, segmented liner that adapts to the shape of your head for a custom feel.
