Meet The Athlete: Kyron Bacon

7 years ago | Photos: Troy Pears, Alli Murfett, Kane O’Rourke

Tasmanian young gun, Kyron Bacon, is on to keep an eye on in the Aussie off-road scene. He recently clean swept of the final two rounds of the Australian Off-Road Championship (AORC) fresh back from an elbow injury – he suffered back in August. It was enough for him to secure second place in the J4 Championship. To find out more about this up-and-coming enduro rider we put him through our “meet the athlete” interview…

NAME: Kyron Bacon
AGE: 16
TEAM: BCP Homda
WEIGHT/HEIGHT: Weight 60kg , Height 168cm
SINGLE/STEADY/HITCHED: Available
KIDS: I think I still am one?
MUSIC: Love my bangers, so anything with good bass
MY CREW: Usually my Dad and anyone that wants to come out for a ride. I’m always keen on it!

If I didn’t race dirt bikes professionally, I’d probably be…
Still at school getting an education. I’m currently working towards an apprenticeship in fabrication.

Three things people don’t know about me are…

  1. Crispy Cream Don and KFC is my favourite food – the diet of a champion
  2. I could resight the major dirt bike manufacturers before I learn how to differentiate between colours
  3. My pre-race diet consists of multiple bacon and egg McMuffins

The best thing about being a BCP Honda athlete is…
The opportunity to ride new model Hondas! They’re an awesome bike.

My most memorable race was…
2017 Australian Off-Road Championship (AORC) at Kyogle. I was racing my old  Honda CRF150 and came away with back to back wins on the epic Kyogle tracks.

My fiercest rivalry was/is with (who, and why)…
Don’t really have fierce rivalries but I’ve had some all-time battles with Will Riordan and Korey McMahon over the last few years racing.

If I was a series promoter, the first thing I’d do is…
Increase the junior enduro races to three hours. The longer the races the better in my opinion.

A funny story about my mechanic…
My mechanic – aka Dad – loves to walk each test loop with me. He loves to explain to me what he thinks are the fastest lines, but every time I’m on the bike racing my lines resemble nothing like the ones he points out to me [laughs].

I escape from the grind of training and racing by…
Playing Xbox or mucking about out in the shed on the welder.

I’m obsessed about…
KFC! I love a good zinger burger.

Don’t even start me about…
My hair, Mum is always onto me about getting it cut.
