2018 ECMX: Round 5 Recap

A big weekend of epic racing for the double points final of the East Coast MX Series in Maitland last weekend with over 300 entrants taking to the gate. Tears of joy for some and sadness for others as championships were won and lost. Twice the achievement for a few of the riders that claimed double championship wins like Phoenix Blanchette in the 7-u9 50cc and 65cc class, Blake Fox in the 13-u15 125cc and 13-u16 250cc class and Jake Barron in the Clubman Lites and Clubman Open classes.

Even after missing Round 2 of the Series, Husqvarna rider Jy Roberts dominated the MX2 class on the day to take victory, and the championship as well. Honda rider Joel Wightman did the same winning all four motos in the MX1 class. Benny Novak came into the day second in the series points and had to finish in front of his rival Joe O’Donnell to take the championship in the 14-u16 85cc class. Both boys badly wanted to win but put on a show of good clean racing, with Novak gaining the upper hand winning the day and championship glory.

In the +30 Vets class, Nathan Brochtrup wasn’t going to let his younger brother beat him on the day winning all four motos, but Trent Brochtrup was thinking about the bigger picture and only had to finish the day with the Series points leader Wade Irwin out injured. Series promoter Michel Constantinou said, “What a great finish to the season, it’s been a tough but rewarding year, and I’m looking forward to the 2019 season.”

Congratulations to the 2018 East Coast MX Champions
