đŸŽ„ Review: Fox Vue Goggle

A product the Transmoto team has tried, tested and would recommend to a mate.

WHAT IS IT?

The Vue Goggle is the latest and greatest model in Fox’s decade-old goggle program. It’s the product of an extensive R&D colab with Fox’s ‘Moto-X Lab’ tester pilot, Ken Roczen, and takes over as Fox’s new top-of-the-line goggle (prior to the Vue, Fox had the Air Space and then Air Defense, which sold for $120 and $180, respectively. Note that the Air Defense is now discontinued).
The Vue’s design philosophy focuses primarily on maximising the rider’s field of vision, but it’s got two other interesting and practical design elements – namely, the dual-material frame construction, and a strap-outrigger system that doubles as a locking mechanism for lens removal/replacement.
This limited edition white model is the only version currently available, though a bunch more colourways will be arriving in Oz by August.

WHY WE RATE IT

PROS…

  • Comfort – The dual-density frame construction (with an ABS/nylon outer frame and softer TPU faceplate) allows the goggle to conform to your face’s shape really well, even though they feel rigid when you hold and twist them. Plus, the triple-layer face foam is soft and wicks away sweat effectively.
  • Peripheral Vision – The Vue’s field of vision is excellent.
  • Outrigger System – This new design makes it quick and easy and tool-free to remove the lens in order to clean and/or replace it.
  • Lens – The pre-curved, injection-moulded polycarbonate lens (which is similar to what first appeared in Oakley’s Air Brake goggle a few years back) offers two huge benefits: optical clarity and much better protection against roost than conventional Lexan lenses.
  • Anti-Fogging – The combination of 360-degree ventilation foam and the lens’ anti-fog treatment means the Vue goggle resists fogging much better than most goggles (with a single-layer lens, that is). A dual-layer lens will soon be available for the Vue.

CONS…

  • The White – The whole goggle looks cool and modern and high quality, and the reflective thread in the strap is a nice touch
though the white shows the dirt pretty quickly.
  • Vision Clearing – The Vue comes with a set of tear-offs (which have limited use in Oz), but we’re yet to see the “Total Vision” roll-off system for them (it’ll be available from dealer in March, for $69). The low-profile nose design (again, like Oakley’s Air Brake) allows the roll-off film to be wide, but we hear Fox has intentionally narrowed it slightly (compared with Oakley’s 58mm roll-off film, that is) to minimise the film’s tendency to sag and stick to the lens in really wet and muddy conditions.

At $160, Fox’s all-new Vue goggle is not cheap (it’s price point is similar to Scott’s Prospect goggle, and $30-$40 cheaper than the Oakley Air Brake). But when it comes to moto goggles, you get what you pay for. And Fox’s R&D has definitely paid dividends with this all-new Vue goggle.

PRICE AND AVAILABILITY

This all-new Vue goggle from Fox is available from any of Monza Imports’ dealers for $160.
