2023 East Coast MX Series: Round 1 Results

The opening round of the 2023 Finance My Bike East Coast MX Series was hosted by the Maitland Motorcycle Club last weekend. Entry numbers peaked at over 430, rider numbers not seen in about 4 years giving some hope that motocross is rebounding from the last few years of Covid and rain. But from rain and mud to dry and dusty made for a very difficult track for the riders. It was great not only to see so many NSW riders, but also riders from Qld and Vic in attendance as well. Starting in the junior divisions, consistency was key for Flynn Burgess on his Cobra 50cc taking the overall win with 2-1-2 finishes in the 7-u9 50cc class. The 12-u16 85cc class had record numbers with 53 riders entered so the class was split into 2 groups with the top 30 riders qualifying for a showdown in the final race of the day. KTM rider Max Compton gave the rest of the 85cc riders a riding lesson sweeping both his heat races and then the final as well to take maximum points. In the senior classes, KTM rider Johnny Bova had a blast claiming victory in the MX2 Pro class and then winning 3 out of 4 motos in the MX Open class with Ben Novak taking the final moto of the day to secure 2nd overall. Caleb Clifton surprised everyone including himself in the MX1 Pro class taking the overall win without a single race win. The GasGas rider just put himself into a good position and come away with 2-2-4 finishes and found himself in front at the end of the day. Jeffrey Puente out of Ecuador come to Australia with his friends to enjoy the Aussie MX scene, and with 2-1-3 finishes in the MX2 Clubman class, he took the top step on the podium.  Follow this link to view the full race results http://www.eastcoastmx.com.au/results/

Promoter Michel Constantinou commented, “This was one of the hardest events if not top of the list, that we have ever had to run in over a decade of East Coast MX. The hot weather, dry track, no PA system and almost a brand new ECMX team made it very challenging, but we’ll regroup and make the necessary adjustments as we head into Rd2 at Nowra Motoplex in a couple week’s time. I want to thank the competitors for their support and look forward to seeing you in Nowra at Rd2.”

Congratulations to the Rnd1 winners of Finance My Bike East Coast MX at Maitland.
