Port Macquarie hosted to Round 2 of the East Coast MX Series on April 7-8. The event had to be postponed from two weeks before because of severe rainfall and flooding in the area, but fortunately, this time competitors were greeted by clear skies and sunny conditions.
Former East Coast MX Champion Joel Wightman made his return to the top step of the podium and the series points lead in the MX1 class with a clean sweep of all four motos despite a challenge from Connor Tierney finishing in second place, and his brother Kurt Wightman in third. Aaron Tanti was just as impressive in the MX2 class taking the win, but it was Tyler Darby who secured the series points lead with second place on the day, with only 10 points separating the top three riders in the MX2 championship. Jai Walker came down from Qld to compete against NSW best in the 15-year-old 125cc and 250cc Junior Lites classes.

The competition was fierce but Jai Walker just managed to edge out Korey McMahon for the win in both classes. Even though he missed Round 1, local Port Macquarie rider Lee Cunningham was the spoiler claiming victory in the Vets and Meghan Rutledge continued her dominance in the Senior Women.

Promoter Michel Constantinou commented, “It’s such a pleasure coming to Port Macquarie, I look forward to it every year. The Hastings Valley Club go out of their way to help us and make us feel welcome. Great people up here, there was a good atmosphere in the pits and the track preparation was on point.”
