2018 ECMX: Round 1 Recap

8 years ago | Words: ECMX | Photos: MXphoto

Almost 500 entrants descended on Appin for the opening round of the East Coast MX Series. An A-list of MX stars showed up to what turned out to be a pre-nationals shakedown for the Pros in the MX1 and MX2 classes.

In the MX1 class, Luke Clout (KTM Australia) battled with Kade Mosig (DPH Husqvarna) for most of the day. The pair each took two wins each but Clout managed to edge Mosig out for the top spot on the podium. KTM Team Manager Jay Marmont came out for a play as well, getting the holeshot in one of his races and showing the best in Australia that he’s still got it. The MX2 class was fiercely contested with Dylan Wills (DPH Husqvarna) winning the first two races before he crashed out in the third moto while leading the race. Jayden Rykers (Raceline Pirelli KTM) was most consistent on the day with wins in the final two motos taking the overall win for the day. Jackson Richardson (CRF Honda Racing) couldn’t get the starts he wanted but ran in the top 5 all day and ended up second overall. Jy Roberts (MXR&D Husqvarna) had a great day finishing third on the podium. Australian MX2 champion Egan Mastin (KTM Australia) crashed in the first corner of the first race while battling for the holeshot, but caught back up to fifth by the end of the race. Mastin finished second to Wills and Rykers in the next two motos and retired before the start of the fourth race. Blake Fox (Motorex KTM Junior Team) was one of the standout performances being one of the youngest in his age group, the 13 year old claimed a double victory winning both the 13-u15 125cc and 13-u16 250cc Junior Lites classes. Promoter Michel Constantinou commented, “Round 1 has been a tough but successful weekend. We had a lot thrown at us, record entries combined with difficult weather conditions but the East Coast MX team pulled together to get it done, and the riders braved the tough track conditions to put on a show. The Macarthur club provided an awesome venue for the weekend, we had a lot of positive feedback from the competitors as well.

Congratulations to the winners of Round 1 East Coast MX at Appin.
