DVD: Dream Racer

“It’s at the edge of who you are, that you learn who you can be…”

Dream Racer tells the tale of thirty-something-year-old business consultant, Christophe Barriere-Varju, who is desperate to rekindle the glory of his youth as a teenage motocross legend on Africa’s Ivory Coast. Ad-man, Simon Lee, yearns to make a movie, but with a growing family, job and mortgage, his time is running out. The Dakar Rally offers both men the chance to fulfil their dream, but it’s a dream that wouldn’t come easily and an extreme undertaking that will etch itself irrevocably into these two very different men’s lives.

For the first time in a feature length film, Dream Racer shows the legendary Dakar Rally in its purest form – no sponsors, no multi-million dollar team, not even a mechanic – just one rider, a motorbike, a film-maker and the world’s most dangerous motor race. Far more than just a motorcycle movie, Dream Racer is a call to arms for anyone who has ever dreamt of doing anything – a spine tingling antidote to the fear of life passing you by unfulfilled.

Many fantastic testimonials have been sent to Christophe and Simon, applauding their can’t-miss film. One fan of Dream Racer wrote, “For any of you that haven’t seen this movie, find it, watch it and embrace it…. The story told by Christophe and Simon is one of the most compelling I’ve ever seen. If it doesn’t change your life, I’d be surprised – it certainly changed mine… It’s not a story about motorcycles, nor the Dakar race specifically. It’s a story about passion, commitment, loss and a man’s journey to finish what he set out to achieve… I’ve never seen anything like it.” Not convinced that this film is amazing yet?! To help raise money for kids who also have big dreams, Christophe has set-up a fundraiser for SIDS and Kids via The Great Australian Ride. You can read all about it and make donations here.

Straight up, this is one of the most moving movies I’ve ever seen. I stumbled into it on a long flight to Europe late last year and was moved to tears. Which doesn’t happen very often. – Andy Wigan
