X Games Returns To Austin, Texas
It’s that time of the year again; X Games has rolled around and, as always, the talented line-up of athletes set to compete at the Circuit of the Americas across Moto X, BMX and Skateboarding disciplines is stacked.
X Games has seen a host of strange changes over the past couple of years: BMX had its Dirt competition taken away in an untimely fashion back in 2006; a Call of Duty X-BOX competition was added for gaming fans (WTF?); mainstream pop star Nicki Minaj headlined a musical act a couple of years back; and of course, Best Trick was removed from the Moto X division, which was a huge blow for the worldwide freestyle motocross community.
After X Games left its long-time home of Los Angeles in 2014, everything seems to have changed for the better, though, as the event headed to the beautiful town of Austin, Texas. BMX was given its Dirt competition back, Nicki Minaj seems to be nowhere in sight, and for 2016, Best Trick has been reintroduced to the Moto X category – most likely because Travis Pastrana stands to take a lot of action sports glory away when the inaugural Nitro World Games takes place at Salt Lake City in Utah come July. Other Moto X competitions going down at X Games this year include Flat Track, Freestyle, Quarterpipe, Step Up and Best Whip.
Australians contesting the event include Rob Adelberg (Flat Track, Freestyle, Best Trick), Michael Kirkness (Flat Track), Clinton Moore (Freestyle, Best Trick, Quarterpipe), Josh Sheehan (Freestyle, Best Trick, Quarterpipe, Best Whip), Blake “Bilko” Williams (Freestyle), Harry Bink (Freestyle), Jarryd McNeil (Step Up, Best Whip) and of course, Jackson “Jacko” Strong (Best Trick, Quarterpipe).
