Two Years Since Reed’s Last “W”

9 years ago | Photos: Grant Reynolds
Everyone knows that Chad Reed is one of the sport’s all-time greats, and Australia’s most successful SX export. With 44 wins from 209 starts in the premier class, Reed is fourth on the all-time win list (behind McGrath, 72, Stewart, 50, and Carmichael, 48), while his astonishing 130 podiums makes him the sport’s most prolific podium placegetter (Jeremy McGrath runs a distant second to Reed with 111 podiums, and these two are the only riders to have notched up more than 100 podiums).
But it’s been a long time between drinks for Reedy when it comes to standing on the top step of the podium. In fact, this weekend’s Atlanta round of the 2017 AMA SX series marks two years to the day since Reed last won; 31 race starts ago.
Call us nostalgic, but the occasion prompted us to go back and revisit the highlights reel of Reedy’s memorable wire-to-wire win at Atlanta in 2015 aboard his TwoTwo Motorsports Kawasaki. If it brought a tear to your eye back in 2015, just imagine your reaction if Reed manages to get up this weekend and post his first win of the 2017 season. He finished on the podium (behind Dungey and Musquin) last year at Atlanta, so a win is not out of the question. And if he does, the 34-year-old Aussie will become the sport’s oldest-ever race winner (beating Mike LaRocco’s long-held record). Food for thought when you’re kicking back in front of on your TV screen this Sunday to watch the timeless #22 ply his stylin’ two-wheeled trade.
