TRIUMPH CLAIMS HATTAH CLASS-WIN
While much attention has rightfully been focused on the Outright placegetters at the recent 2025 Hattah Desert Race, did you notice who quietly claimed the win in the 250cc 4-Stroke class at Australia’s biggest and most prestigious desert race? Yep, the relative newcomer to the MX, enduro and desert-racing scenes, Triumph. Aboard a TF250-X model fitted with taller gearing and longer-range fuel tank, Winner Triumph Australia Racing Team’s Ty Kean secured the milestone achievement – adding to the impressive swag of silverware that the British brand has already claimed in just its second season of off-road racing.

Kean’s 2025 Hattah class-win comes on top of Triumph’s race wins and/or podium finishes in the 2025 MX2 World Championship and AMA Pro Motocross Championship (and how about the fact Triumph riders claimed four of the top 10 Overall places in the 250cc class – Harrup, Forkner, Swoll and Smith – at the recent Millville round!?). That’s not to mention Triumph’s historic first victory at Arizona’s Round 4 of the 2025 AMA Supercross Championship in the hands of Jordon Smith back in February; Jonny Walker’s remarkable sixth place at the recent Red Bull ErzbergRodeo (the first four-stroke amid a sea of two-strokes); or the podium finishes at a host of other national MX and enduro series around the world over the past 18 months. Yep, Triumph has sure been punching above their weight for a new kid on the off-road block.
“I’m extremely happy to deliver this win for both myself, the Winner Team, and for Triumph Australia,” Ty Kean said in the wake of his 2025 Hattah 250cc 4T class-win, which placed him 24th Outright in a field of predominantly bigger-bore machinery. “ProMX has had its ups and downs this year and, honestly, I didn’t have any expectations coming into Hattah – other than to have fun and see what we could do with the modified bike for the desert. The team did an incredible job. The bike was super-competitive, and we were able to get the win,” Kean went on to say.

Team regular, Jack Simpson, also lined up for the 2025 Hattah Desert Race, entering under the Winner Motorcycles banner aboard a privateer entry. Having finished third in 2024, Simpson returned to Hattah’s red sands as a genuine contender for the Outright win in 2025. After qualifying in second position this year on Saturday, Simpson ran inside the top five for the majority of Sunday’s gruelling four-hour race, but a late race collision with a tree resulted in a hand injury that forced Simpson to back off the pace. He eventually crossed the line just inside the top 10 – a tough end to what had been a strong showing for his first Triumph-mounted Hattah campaign.

With the team’s maiden desert victory now in the books, their attention shifts back to the final two rounds of the 2025 Penrite ProMX Championship. The next gate drop is set for Sunday, July 27, in Toowoomba, Queensland, where the Winner Triumph Australia Racing Team looks to continue its momentum and finish the season strongly.
