TRANSMOTO’S WINTER BREAK TIPS!

1 day ago | Words: Jenna Post | Photos: OK Photo

When the temps drop, we totally understand why the motivation to endure those cold, windy rides in the name of fun falls off the face of this planet. We are now well into our winter break before the 8-hour season kicks back off in September. But winter isn’t off-season, it’s prep season. It’s your chance to rebuild your body, dial in your bike, and get your head in the game. So when you’re lining up at the next event – whether it’s your first crack or another event to add to your enduro-racing-achievements list – you’re not just showing up and hoping for the best, you’re ready to ride, dig deep, and make it count!

Train Like a Racer

You don’t need to be a fitness freak, but it most certainly won’t hurt to keep up with some basic cardio and strength training. Consistency is the key here. Simple things like staying active, building a bit of strength, and getting your heart rate up will help you hang on longer and ride smoother. A fitter body means less fatigue — and way more fun on race day.

We know bike fitness itself is a whole other ball-game, and you’re never as bike fit as you think you are. So, if you can, keep up the time on two-wheels too.

Keep the Bike Alive

Give your bike some loving. Regular maintenance, checking key parts, and fixing any wear-and-tear now means fewer surprises later, especially if it’s sitting in the garage more than it is rolling on the dirt. A well-looked-after bike runs better, lasts longer, and keeps you riding strong when it counts, aka, a race weekend! You’ll well-and-truly thank your past self for this one.

Get Your Strategy Straight

There is no sense going into any race on earth without a plan. Have a think about how your body will handle the abuse and be brutally honest with yourself (bearing in mind it’s usually tougher than you think it’ll be). Then, use the downtime to talk through your team strategy, if you’re not riding solo. Figure out everyone’s strengths, strategise your rider switches and most definitely practice your transponder swaps. The more you prepare now, the less of a shit-show race day will run.

Plan With Your Crew

Study race footage, check your gear, sort travel logistics, organise food plans et cetera. Who’s bringing what? Who’s good on the tools? Who’s carpooling? And most importantly, who can run the fastest in their boots in the MXstore Charity Boot Race, so they can nab the team a front-row start!

You don’t have to plan and train like a factory rider, but if you put in solid, smart effort between now and your next event, we guarantee the pay-off will hit hard when you line up next. While others are fading after an hour in, you’ll still be locked in.
