With the 2023 Motocross of Nations (MXoN) at France’s legendary Ernee track now just a couple of weeks away, you can hear Aussie moto fans fizzing at the prospect of bearing witness to Jett Lawrence, Hunter Lawrence and Dean Ferris having a crack at doing what’s has never done before: Team Australia winning the MXoN’s coveted Chamberlain Trophy crown. And given that the Aussie team is, on paper, our best ever chance of winning the prestigious international event, that excitement is more intense than ever – especially for those of you who plan to travel to France to watch this year’s MXoN in the flesh. Cos, whether you’re a moto tragic or not, MXoN memories are typically treasured for a lifetime.

All of which got us sniffing back through Transmoto’s archives; to an article about the memorable MXoN trip that Chad Reed and Jason Thomas took to Latvia for the 2014 MXoN. Yep, you get to ride shotgun with the multiple AMA MX and SX champ and his mate, JT (who’s now best known for his on-ground commentary at the 2023 AMA MX and World SMX Championships) as they take in stops at the Italian MotoGP, Valentino Rossi’s private riding ranch and Tony Cairoli’s Mediterranean-side crib en route to the Latvian MXoN!

For any of you who are MotoGP fans, check out the group shots at Rossi’s Ranch. Yep, alongside the legends of the sport back then, there are younger versions of a few of the MotoGP’s biggest current-day stars!

This feature article first appeared in Issue #47 (Nov-Dec, 2014) of Transmoto Dirt Bike Magazine. Check it out…
