Throwback: The Chad-Apault @ Millville

Millville’s 2014 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross round is taking place this weekend, and we couldn’t think of a better time to look back on this gem…

Below is footage of Chad Reed’s spectacular crash during the opening lap of the second 450 Class moto at the 2011 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship’s Spring Creek National in Millville, July 16. The Australian had just assumed the lead, looking to take his fifth win of the season, before losing control of his bike and flying upwards of 50 feet through the air. Despite the frightening fall, Reed came away virtually unscathed, and after collecting his breath, returned to action. After crossing the line in 34th from 35 riders, Reed fought his way into 14th by the end of the moto. His 1-14 moto scores resulted in fifth Overall, and even more importantly, Reed was able to maintain his series points lead as a result of his incredible effort.

Hometown hero, Red Bull KTM’s Ryan Dungey, took the Overall win that day. He’ll be looking to do so again this weekend, as will local boy, Yamalube/Star Racing/Yamaha’s Jeremy Martin in the 250 Class.
