Silver City Desert Enduro: Postponed
This arrival of the flamboyantly named Silver City Desert Enduro (SCDE) on the 2017 race calendar sure made an impact in a short space of time. But, as Dirt2Ride Events’ Lyndon Heffernan, explained earlier this week, the limited runway in the lead-up to the event – initially slated for August 25-27 – has meant he’s been forced to postpone it until 2018.
“I am so disappointed to advise everyone that, largely due to lack of entries, we are postponing the inaugural Silver City Desert Enduro until some time in 2018,” Heffernan told Transmoto. “Obviously, all the people who did enter will be refunded in full ASAP, so please be patient with this process.”
Ironically, the SCDE’s venue has copped a heap of raining in the past week, which would have created prime conditions if the event had gone ahead. But, as Heffernan went on to say, “The reality is that events cost a lot to put on these days with insurances, marketing and compliance, so there is a break- even point you need to get to. Put simply, with the limited timeframe we had, we did not get to that break-even point in time. The guys at Silver City MCC are as disappointed as I am, as they had really put in the work and were looking forward to hosting the event. Similarly, the Kenda Tyres and Lucas Oils, who were quick to jump on as major sponsors, were also looking forward to supporting this new event. So all I can say at this point is: please keep an eye out for 2018 event details on the www.dirt2ride.com website as SCDE is not the only event we are planning to bring to Aussie dirt bike riders.”
