PRODUCT SPOTLIGHT: MAXXIS MX-IH 18-INCH REAR

Maxxis has just released an all-new 18-inch rear tyre that’s been built from the ground up and, wait for it, has a unique Australian specification. Yep, developed in Australia (by Aussie ProMX and AORC racer, Todd Waters) to suit Australian conditions, the MaxxCross MX-IH (Intermediate-Hard) comes in a 120/90-18 sizing and has been designed as a long-lasting, performance-driven tyre that’s right at home in this wide brown land’s hard terrain and rocky off-road trails. And it’s approved for both off-road and road use.

This new-generation 18-inch rear essentially combines the tread pattern of Maxxis’ lightweight MX-IH motocross tyre with a super-strong carcass construction and durable rubber compound for both on and off-road use. And according to Maxxis:

  • The tyre features a pliable sidewall that acts like dampening. This provides predictable handling through rock gardens and a planted feeling under heavy braking where you need the tyre to flatten out.
  • The new rubber compound and wide tread pattern (with 16mm deep knobs) works together to provide great straight-line traction and long wear life over high-speed trails.
  • All this combined results in a lightweight off-road tyre that accelerates hard out of turns, is very predictable under braking, hooks up in hard and dusty conditions, and holds up in hard rocky terrain.
  • This rear is best coupled with a Maxxis MX-IH 80/100-21 front.

Here are a few more notable features of this all-new MaxxCross MX-IH 18” rear:

  • Developed in Australia: Tested. Punished. Proven. Working directly with Maxxis’ Taiwanese engineers and technicians, Todd Waters developed and tested this tyre at some of the most punishing tracks and trails Australia has to offer. After the tyre stood up to the test and excelled in hard, dusty and rocky conditions, Waters signed off on the final product, which is now available in Maxxis dealers nation-wide.
  • Race-Proven Performance: Waters used the MX-IH at the recent 2022 Australian 4-Day Enduro in Erica, Victoria. And in conditions that varied from slop to hardpack, Waters consistently ran at the front of the 300-rider pack. At his debut 4-Day, Waters ran second in the hotly contested E2 class and fourth Outright (and claim E2 and Outright honours on the final day of the event).
  • Works with Tube & Mousse: For enduro applications, this tyre operates with a heavy-duty tube at 13-14psi or a 10-12psi Mousse tube for maximum performance and reliability.
  • #E- and DOT-Approved Certifications: It’s an off-road orientated tyre that meets the required #E and DOT standards for road use. Which makes it perfect for any cross-country enduro rider or weekend warrior with a road-registered motorcycle.

RRP: $132.95 (120/90-18 rear); $104.95 (80/100-21 front).
