PRODUCT SPOTLIGHT: DUNLOP GEOMAX MX14 REAR

If you’re a motocross fan, you probably will have already noticed Pro racers around the world using Dunlop’s all-new Geomax MX14 sand/mud tyre (or at least, a pre-production version of it) to good effect over the past few months. And when we say “good effect”, we mean winning virtually every sand or mud race they’ve been used at amid a sand-storm of rave reviews.

But how does the all-new Dunlop Geomax MX14 differ from the Geomax MX12 it replaces? What all-new technology does this radical-looking rear tyre introduce? And where is it claimed to make most performance gains on its predecessor – which was already widely regarded as one of the best sand/mud tyres on the market?

Here’s what Dunlop has told us about this all-new rear hoop…

Introducing the successor to the Geomax MX12, the all-new Dunlop Geomax MX14 tyre truly excels in extreme sand and mud conditions. The MX14 is one of the most technologically advanced off-road tyres Dunlop has ever offered, and is jam-packed with new technologies in compound, construction, and tread pattern design.

Evolving the Geomax series, it was important to develop a tyre that delivers performance advantages to racers by improving the overall performance in a broader range of conditions. The MX14 offers increased traction/drive-grip on starts, straights and when exiting corners; improved braking performance for more rear tyre stopping power in harsh conditions; perfect slide control when braking and cornering in sand and mud; and enhanced absorption/damping performance to keep the tyre on the ground and digging in.

In short, it offers increased cornering grip, slide control, start performance, shock absorption, and braking grip, with enhanced handling in deep sand/mud and even in hard-based sand/mud.

THE CONCEPT

  • MX tyre for both extreme loose sandy conditions and mud and hard-base sand terrain.
  • Successor to the MX12 with improved performance in a broader range of conditions.

TARGET MARKET

  • A wide range of MX riders, from leisure MX enthusiasts to GP-level riders.

FEATURES & BENEFITS

  • Offers increased traction/drive-grip on starts, straights and when exiting corners, improved braking performance for more rear tyre stopping power in harsh conditions.
  • Perfect slide control when braking and cornering in sand and mud.
  • Optimised tread blocks that can more effectively penetrate and scoop sandy/muddy terrain thanks to the new Reinforced Scoop Technology (RST) and V-Block Technology Advanced (V-BT Advanced) designs.
  • New Flexible Fin Technology (FFT) allows for improved stopping power and more progressive brake control.
  • New carcass construction to improve absorption and damping by adding a ply to improve linearity when load is applied.

THE CONSTRUCTION – IN DETAIL…

  • New Pattern: The new pattern with reduced scoop block spacing can more effectively penetrate and scoop sandy/muddy terrain thanks to the new Reinforced Scoop Technology (RST) and V-Block Technology Advanced (V-BT Advanced) designs.
  • Flexible Fin Technology: The new Flexible Fin Technology (FFT) allows for improved stopping power and more progressive brake control. The optimised tread blocks have 18% taller tread blocks to ensure optimum grip and enhances the RST and V-BT technologies.
  • Improved Rubber Compound: The compound has been enhanced to improve control and penetration, increase tyre strength and reduce flex, providing traction on straights and corner exits, thanks to the High-Resilience Rubber Compound (H-RRC) technology.
  • New Carcass Construction: The new carcass construction is designed to improve absorption and damping by adding a ply to improve linearity when load is applied.
