Product: ODI Emig V2 Lock-On Grips

WHAT IS IT?

It’s one of several lock-on options produced by handgrip specialist, ODI. They come with their own throttle tube and snap-on throttle cam, and get a stamp of approval by multiple AMA MX and SX champ, Jeff Emig.

WHY WE RATE IT…

To install, there’s no fiddly tie-wire or grip glue. Just jam them on, tighten one 3mm Alley-head grub screw on each grip’s inner flange and you’re done. And if you want to swap them out for a different grip compound (cushy grips for desert racing, for instance), there’s no need to wreck the things or use compressed air in the removal process. Aside from the fact they’re a cinch to fit and won’t rotate, there are other benefits, too: they come with built-in bar-ends (which’ll keep scrutineers happy, and can be easily modified to fit full-wrap handguards), you can twist them to position the waffle exactly where you like it, the waffle comes with a thumb relief to prevent blisters, and no tie- wire means they’re more resistant to tearing in a crash. Some guys reckon it’s weird to have both grips with the same diameter, but we reckon it’s less weird. Put simply, they make ‘conventional’ grips feel old-hat. You get a fresh throttle tube with each pair and they’re competitively priced with the less sophisticated glue-and-tie-wire grips.
