Pala Raceway, in Southern California, is playing host to its first ever National, on September 11th, and is the 12th and final stop of the 2010 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship. The team at Pala is amazing, and the facility, track and nearby resort and casino will be exemplary hosts for the last races of the year, complete with award ceremonies and wrap-up festivities.
We had a chance to catch up with the leaders of the Pala team Ryan Ouellette, Kirk Chandler and Chase Ballard during the recent break in our schedule. They took us on a special tour of how the property and track are developing, and getting ready for September. All hands on deck have been working extra hard to build a brand new race track, which includes all new obstacles, hills, jumps, bleachers and VIP areas.
With just under four weeks to go, the facility is shaping up, as the photographs below illustrate. It is worth noting that tickets are selling fast, and all of the onsite camping areas have already sold out.

The Sand Whoops are mellow right now for the Amateur Practice days, but will be bigger and sandier for the National. In the background the step down will be the landing on the big 130′ double. It currently is shaped into a step up and step down for the Amateur riders. The hill side up hill and down hill are also in the back ground. The hill side that is being brushed will have landscape timber steps and will be covered in sod for good festival seating.

Photo of the finish line Table Top with the Grand Stands in the back ground, Picture is taken from the Starting Gate location. The Starting gate and backdrop are in progress.

The Hip Triple Up Hill being built. All of the dirt on the hills had to be moved into place truck load by truck load. Over 50,000 yards were moved into place for the new hills.

The Step Up and Drop off Section is a fun flowing big air section. The entire national track has high pressure water hose system to keep the soil in prime condition all day long.

The National Track has been getting broken in by top pros and amateur riders, the freshly screened dirt is forming up great ruts and huge braking bumps. We prep the track each afternoon so it is fresh and smooth to start the day. Chase is prepping the new up hill that will have more sand added before September 11th.
