On A Roll: Throttle Roll 2019

6 years ago | Words: Yamaha Motor Australia

Sydney’s hippest street party became Sydney’s hottest warehouse party as the Throttle Roll custom bike show took over The Commune in Waterloo on Sat 18 May. Following a sabbatical last year, Throttle Roll 2019 got right back into the groove with a rad collection of the best custom motorcycles, hot live bands, awesome food and drinks and one tough bucking bronco… Lucky punter Tim Rollinson won a brand new XSR900 in TR19’s raffle and Michelle @martini_mishka won a cool Segura leather jacket in YMA/Ficeda’s post a picture competition.

Rollinson recently had his bike stolen, so was extra stoked to have won the XSR: “I am so pumped, to win the XSR is amazing! I’ve already bought a GPS tracker and an alarm so this bike is going to be harder to steal than the last one was. I’m an avid bike builder with two project bikes on the go with the hopes of having a sweet bike each for me and the wife to ride with the awesome custom bike community in Sydney. I can’t wait to pick up the XSR. If it was any other bike I wouldn’t have bought a ticket!” he says.

Throttle Roll has always been an outdoor event, starting in the beer garden of the Enmore pub before migrating to larger premises in Sydenham as a street party – and now morphed into a warehouse party in The Commune buildings at 901 Bourke Street, Waterloo. In doing so, Organiser Mark Hawwa from Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride fame mitigated against bad weather. Plus he took advantage of an opportunity that presented itself before the buildings that are hosting this year’s event are redeveloped.

“This is the Throttle Roll I’ve dreamed of since the first event, a space where we could show films, showcase art, walk around each individual bike display, mechanical bulls, food halls, outdoor bars, bands, live art. It isn’t possible without the amazing backing of Yamaha Motor Australia and to make that phone call on stage to the XSR900 prize winner with thousands of people listening in was an absolute highlight,” says Hawwa.

“Throttle Roll is a great event with some killer bikes and a cool vibe,” explains YMA Marketing Manager Sean Goldhawk. “YMA has been a big supporter of Throttle Roll for a number of years – not just because we like to show off our custom painted retro XSRs but because we really enjoy going to such a unique and fun event. Roll on the next one – in whatever guise it takes,” he says.
