MX Champ Jay Marmont makes appearance with V8 Supercar Holden Racing Team

Four-time Australian Motocross Champion Jay Marmont was a guest of the Holden Racing Team at Queensland Raceway’s Coates Hire Ipswich 300 round of the V8 Supercars over the weekend in Ipswich.

The 28-year-old, who wrapped up a record-equalling fourth-straight Rockstar Energy Drink MX Nationals title last month at Coolum, was on hand for Rockstar Energy Drink to sign autographs for the race fans alongside his factory CDR Rockstar Energy Drink Yamaha YZ450F.

“It’s great to see first hand how the V8 Supercars are run and also just to see how big the sport is up close,” Marmont said. “Rockstar Energy Drink organised me to sign in the HRT merchandise tent and it was great to interact with fans of Australian motorsport. It was a great eye opener and a privilege to do it.”

Reigning V8 Supercars champion James Courtney also gave Marmont a tour of his HRT Commodore on Saturday afternoon ahead of the opening race of the weekend.

Hugely impressed with the team structure and technology of the V8 Supercars, Marmont admits that he’d love to turn a wheel if the opportunity was to arise in the future.

“To be sitting in the driver’s seat with all of the controls in front of me as James showed me what was what, it was amazing to see all of the controls that the guys work with during the race,” Marmont added. “If I ever got the chance to drive one myself one day I’m sure it’d be an awesome experience and I’d love to do it.”

Marmont will now begin preparing for the Australasian Supercross Championships from his base in Wollongong, that series commencing in Melbourne on 22 October.
