Gibbs wins 2014 Manjimup 15,000
Overcast conditions loomed over the Cosy Creek circuit, and with a slight bit of rain the 2014 Manjimup 15,000 shaped up to take place in it’s typical rough conditions.
In moto one it was all about Kirk Gibbs, who grabbed the holeshot and early lead with AJ Catanzaro in tow. Kade Mosig quickly made the pass into second with Ben Townley following. By the end of the short five-lap moto, Gibbs had checked out from the field with Mosig and Townley still in their same positions.
Brock Winston captured the holeshot in moto two but he was passed by Townley in the opening corners. Gibbs and Mosig came together in the first corner and were forced to work their way through the field. Caleb Ward held off Gibbs for over a lap aboard his 250cc two-stroke until being passed on the final lap. While running third, Calvin made a mistake on the last lap allowing Gibbs and Ward to go by. Townley won the moto from Winston and Gibbs.
Brock Winston once again grabbed the holeshot in moto three but Gibbs made the early pass into the lead with Townley following. Gibbs checked out from the field as Townley held off Winston and Mosig to the chequered flag. Winston would only just grab third over Mosig.
Kirk Gibbs was able to secure the holeshot in moto four as Luke Arbon went down in the first turn. Townley and Robbo Lovett would follow Gibbs for the opening laps until Winston made the pass on Lovett. Recovering from a bad start, Kade Mosig worked his way through the field to pass Nick Wey in the first few laps, he then went onto chase down Brock Winston. At this stage of the race Townley was on the hunt after Gibbs but didn’t have the edge over him and settled for second to finish the moto. Caleb Ward put the pressure on Nick Wey for the closing laps but didn’t make the pass in time. Gibbs won the moto from Townley, Winston and Mosig.
