Josh Strang wins Ironman GNCC
The final round of the 2015 Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) series took place at Ironman Raceway in Indiana this weekend. The course was made up of six 13-mile loops that were fast-paced with some wooded areas.
Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Josh Strang started the race off with a quick battle moving through the top of the leading pack. Close behind Strang was fellow Husqvarna-mounted rider, Ryan Sipes, pushing him for the first place position. Throughout the entire second loop, Strang and Sipes went back and forth for the leading position. After both riders left the pits on the second loop, Strang jumped ahead, but continued to battle with Sipes.
With only two loops left, Josh Strang opened his lead to 45 seconds and from that point on, he led the race and finished in first with a two-minute lead, while Sipes finished in second. Strang’s win pushed him up to second place in the Overall championship standings.
“Today went well!” said an excited Josh Strang. “It was nice to finish off the year with a win. The track was fun and I felt like I rode well. My bike and team has been awesome all year and I can’t wait to start testing my new 2016 Husqvarna and get ready for next year!”
