INSIDE ANTHONY SOLAR’S FACTORY SHERCO

8 months ago | Words: Matt Bernard | Photos: Matt Reilly

Meet Anthony Solar’s 300 SE Factory race bike, finely tuned by Derek Grundy and the Motul Sherco Hard Enduro Team for the Australian Hard Enduro Championship. Prioritising durability and resilience, it’s built to conquer the toughest challenges of hard enduro racing. Anthony is currently battling it out with Ruben Chadwick in the AHEC on this epic machine. Get some insider info on his race bike below.

Starting with P-Tech components, the bike integrates a hybrid front disc guard and radiator braces, ensuring vital areas are shielded from potential damage. A billet, four-bolt left-side engine case saver not only protects the engine but also safeguards the clutch slave cylinder.

While minimal, engine modifications include a flywheel weight from JWT Imports, an Akrapovic titanium muffler from the Sherco Racing Parts catalogue, and a remapped ECU from Two-Stroke Performance (TSP), tailored for hard enduro. TSP also supplies the team with their low and medium comp cylinder head inserts, along with their propriety ECU Reflash Module (ERM) for optimising any mapping changes for the Sherco bikes.

Solar fine-tunes the 300cc 2-stroke torque monster’s performance with a leaner-than-standard N8RH needle, 40 pilot and 170 main, complemented by Motul oils for smooth operation and longevity.

The drivetrain features a genuine Sherco diaphragm clutch kit developed in collaboration with STM, providing reliable power transfer. Gearing is adjusted to a 13/51 ratio for hard enduro, matched with an RK chain for durability.

To suit Solar’s stature, the bike incorporates a lowered subframe and a standard-height seat with a custom Strike Seats gripper cover. Suspension setup, by Chad’s Offroad Setups, utilises the standard and highly praised KYB suspension components with Merge rising-rate pressure springs for optimal performance.

Cosmetic and ergonomic enhancements include Sherco Racing X-Trig clamps, Renthal FatBars, S3 footpegs, and SKDA graphics. The bike rolls on Metzeler’s ‘Extra Soft’ 6 Days Extreme compound tyres paired with NitroMousse ‘Plushie’ mousse tubes for maximum grip in extreme conditions.

Through meticulous customisation and strategic component selection, Sherco Australia ensures that Anthony Solar’s SE 300 Factory bike is primed to conquer the toughest challenges of hard enduro racing.
