TESTED: CFMOTO CX-2E & CX-5E

1 week ago | Words: Matt Bernard

Electric minibikes are taking the moto-world by storm, every year more and more companies are releasing their version of quite mini-moto-fun. These little machines are like a breath of fresh air, quite literally, as they boast zero emissions and whisper-quiet motors. But don’t let their silence fool you – these bikes pack a serious punch when it comes to fun and ease of use. With competitive price points and a strong focus on safety, they’re sure to grab the attention of parents and young riders alike.

First Impressions: Sleek, Safe, and Seriously Fun

CFMOTO didn’t just slap together an electric minibike and call it a day. Both the CX-2E and CX-5E are thoughtfully designed, with safety at the core. The CX-2E, aimed at kids aged 4 to 7, feels like the perfect introduction to riding. When you see one of these little bikes in person, its sturdy steel frame and child-friendly ergonomics stand out.

The CX-5E, designed for older kids (8 to 12 years), is the bike where young riders start to feel like they’ve outgrown their toy phase and are getting serious. Yet, CFMOTO has ensured it’s still forgiving enough to nurture developing skills without being intimidating.

To see if these bikes lived up to the hype, we brought in two young test riders—Jed and Hendryx—who were more than ready to put the CX-2E and CX-5E through their paces. Right off the bat, both riders took to their respective bikes like fish to water. Jed, on the CX-2E, was beaming with excitement as he zipped around, while Hendryx looked like he was already planning his next off-road adventure aboard the CX-5E.

Performance Meets Simplicity

Let’s talk performance, because that’s where CFMOTO’s CX electric series shines. The CX-2E’s 1200w motor is perfect for those first-timers who need a stable, manageable power output. It’s got just enough kick to keep things fun without overwhelming young riders. Jed found it easy to manage, and after just a few minutes, he was confidently riding in circles, braking smoothly, and having the time of his life.

For the budding daredevils, the CX-5E steps up the game with a 1500w motor and more aggressive wheels. Hendryx, already comfortable on a bike, felt that satisfying boost in speed and agility. He particularly loved the extra power when he hit open stretches of terrain, making full use of the three “gear” settings, which allowed him to switch between modes easily via the LCD display.

For bikes aimed at kids, CFMOTO nailed the suspension setup. The long-travel suspension gives these little machines a surprisingly smooth ride. Both Jed and Hendryx were able to tackle small bumps and uneven ground without feeling jolted out of their seats. The lightweight frame and off-road capabilities made these minibikes incredibly easy to handle, even for first-timers.

Battery Life & Convenience

CFMOTO boasts a range of over 60 kilometres on a single charge for both the CX-2E and CX-5E, and our test runs showed this is no exaggeration. What’s more, the swappable battery design is a huge win for families planning extended adventures. No need to worry about a dead battery cutting the fun short—just pop in a fresh one, and off you go!

Charging up the battery is straightforward, and the quiet, emission-free operation means both Jed and Hendryx could ride for hours without bothering the neighbours. The electric setup is also practically maintenance-free, which is a relief for parents who want their kids to enjoy their bikes without the hassle of constant tune-ups.

Price Point: Affordable Fun

Here’s where things get really interesting—the price. At $2,190 ride away for the CX-2E and $2,490 for the CX-5E, CFMOTO has managed to strike an impressive balance between affordability and premium features. You’re not just paying for a basic bike; you’re getting something packed with features that ensure safety, longevity, and plenty of thrills. These bikes are priced to make quality fun accessible, without cutting corners on the important details.

The Verdict

Overall, the CX-2E and CX-5E are exciting new entries into the electric minibike world, and CFMOTO has clearly put thought into every detail. Whether your child is just getting started or ready to tackle more technical riding, these bikes offer something for every young adventurer. Their ease of use, combined with top-notch safety features and a price point that doesn’t hurt the wallet, make them strong contenders in Australia’s fun bike market.

Jed and Hendryx both gave their enthusiastic thumbs-up – these bikes are more than ready for the next generation of riders!
