Husqvarna’s Fuel-Injected 2-Strokes

9 years ago | Words: Andy Wigan | Photos: Husqvarna

Three weeks ago, we revealed that KTM’s next-generation 2018 250EXC and 300EXC models will come equipped with Transfer Port Injection (TPI) technology, but only for selected markets. The 2018 two-stroke machines destined for Europe and the USA will get TPI, whereas Australia’s more lax emissions standards means that a greater majority of the two-strokes on Aussie dealer floors will remain carb-fed (according to Transmoto’s sources, only a handful of KTM’s TPI-equipped 2018-model two-strokes will end up in Australia, while all 2019-model machines sent to Oz will come with the technology).
Today’s announcement from Husqvarna, however, indicates that its all-new 2018-model TE250i and TE300i will get TPI for all worldwide markets, Australia included. Which kinda makes sense, seeing as Husqvarna has always positioned itself as a brand whose superior component spec effectively makes their bikes ‘premium KTMs’.
So, the two questions that remain to be answered: One, what’s the relative performance of Husky’s new TPI-fed two-strokes? And, two, what will the price differential be to their carb-fed TE250/300 predecessors?
Stay tuned for more in the coming weeks. In the meantime, here’s the limited information that Husqvarna were prepared to divulge in today’s PR:

5/04/2017

Husqvarna Motorcycles proudly announces the introduction of its next-generation, fuel-injected, 2-stroke enduro motorcycles. Perfectly embodying the brand’s pioneering spirit, the new-from-the-ground-up 2018 TE 250i and TE 300i machines will feature engine technology that is set to revolutionise the field of 2-stroke enduro motorcycles.

Enjoying over a century of uninterrupted design, development and production, the announcement comes as another benchmark to its impressive timeline of innovations. Being one of the world’s oldest motorcycle manufacturers, and the first company to ever produce a purpose-built offroad bike, Husqvarna Motorcycles has always been a great advocate of 2-stroke technology.

From Rolf Tibblin’s first Motocross European Championship in 1959 to the golden age of motocross during the 60s and the 70s, Husqvarna has remained a dominant force in the segment of high-performance 2-stroke offroad motorcycles. With their new generation of fuel-injected 2-strokes arriving soon, Husqvarna Motorcycles will proudly start a new chapter in their history of pioneering innovation and forward-thinking development.

Husqvarna’s MY18 fuel injected 2-stroke enduro models will be available in Australia from January 2018.
