Grabham set to thrill crowd at WA’s first Enduro-X

Western Australia’s Trail and Enduro Club, along with the Lightweight Motorcycle Club, have confirmed Motorex KTM Off-Road’s Ben Grabham will compete in WA’s first Stadium Enduro-X, set for March 10 at Hendley Park Motocross track in Byford.

The 30-year-old KTM rider from Bathurst, NSW, regularly competes in the Australian Off-Road Championship and desert races. He won the E3 class in the AORC in 2010 and his recent claim to fame was dominating last year’s Finke Desert Race. Grabbo has opted for an all-desert assault for 2012, so it’s nice to see him mixing it up in Enduro-X.

As well as Grabham, there is a strong field of Pro/Expert riders entered for the event, including interest from other eastern state-based riders. With entries confirmed for Dave Langstone, Brett Beaumont, Shane Blakely, and Justin Parker.

Normal Enduro-X is run on a 3-5 kilometres track with various obstacles, but the March 10 event is more like a Stadium-X style sprint event that will mean more action in a closer area.

The entire length of the track is just 400m and there will be a variety of obstacles, ranging from logs of various sizes, tyres, rocks, steel pipes and water areas. It is envisaged that there will be two water sections, three tyre and two rock sections and several areas with logs which will be a various heights as well as a section of vertical logs.

Event organisers say, “Each race will probably only be two laps as it is a very physical type of event. It will be a MotoX-style start with the drop of the gates and only ten riders in each race. There will be 30 obstacles in the 400m track, and the event will be run with a series of qualifying heats before the two race final. We will be doing everything possible to make it technical and enjoyable for all competitors.”

There will be several classes: Junior, 30-39 years, 40-100 years, Clubman and the Pro/Expert class

Spectators entry for adults are $10, kids 10-15yrs $5 and children under 10 are free. Practise starts is 2-5pm and racing is 6pm-10pm.

There will be a bar and canteen facilities at the track to provide refreshments for spectators. For details in regards to the Lightweight Club and location of the event www.motorcyclingwa.org.au and view the link under the Lightweight Motorcycle Club.
