FMX Insider No.21: Freestyle Kings

11 years ago | Words: Ben Heidrich

Welcome to our brand new weekly web-exclusive column, Transmoto‘s FMX Insider. Penned each week by South Australian rider, Ben Heidrich, the FMX Insider will present the story-behind-the-stories of the Aussie and international freestyle motocross scenes.

There are a few really good Australian freestyle motocross demonstration teams getting around at the moment. Fresh on the scene is Freestyle Kings (FK), Australia’s newest FMX team. FK is a rider-owned organisation, which aims to have riders paid correctly while riding a safe portable landing, in a safe environment and safe conditions. Freestyle Kings was created by FMX rider, Josh Hannah, with help from his good friend, Jackson Strong.

“The FK truck was finished in April this year – we had our first show a week after that and we’ve been busy ever since,” said Hannah. “We have performed fourteen shows already in a very busy four months. We are currently at the Queensland Royal Show (The EKKA) and have completed six days of successful shows with four more days to go.”

The FK team consists of riders, Josh Hannah, Pat Bowden, Brodie Markham, Truman Carroll and MC, Justin ‘Bushy’ Bush. Riders that have also jumped for the shows include Jackson Strong, Tommy Robinson, Lance Russell, Ben Hannah and Luke McNeill.

The FK show has been described as, “A slap in the face whilst picking your jaw up from the floor,” by MC Bushy. “Being a fresh FMX team, from a promoter’s point-of-view, they knew we had some high caliber riders; but it’s really about how you come across on the night,” said Bushy.

“Can these guys keep it together and deliver the goods? … That’s exactly what we have done,” continued Bushy. “We have dropped some cracking shows with the powers above being absolutely stoked on us being a professional FMX team. It’s a team run by riders, for riders! So the connection’s there to work together if the set-up isn’t right, so it works really well.”

The Freestyle Kings team provides FMX entertainment all over Australia. They have already performed from one end of the country to the other and are now looking to go international.

“Our shows consist of a lot of things,” said Hannah. “For example, here at the Queensland Royal Show, we are jumping on one side of the stadium then moving the truck to the opposite side of the stadium to perform. The boys jump on the quads with fireworks and go as fast as they can around the stadium. It is all worked into one big choreographed show which is really fun; the whole team nails it every night.”

MC Bushy spoke on the event. “I think the industry is only small but there is room for growth. Josh Hannah had a vision to take a truck around Australia with some of his best mates and push FMX to the next level. Being the owner and operator of the team, Hannah loves nothing more than riding his dirt bike and making sure his teams’ safety is flawless.”

“Other teams have been so dominant over the past twelve years, so we think it’s time for something different for the entertainment industry,” said Hannah. “I’d just like to thank our sponsors, TeeNCee Graphics, Lusty Industries and Distributors, Troy Lee Designs, Von Zipper, OGIO, Sony, Aussie Adrenaline, Hi-Tec Oils, and of course, our set-up crew; Ben Hannah, Shane Borg and Bushy, our MC.”

Keep an eye out for the Freestyle Kings FMX show and their world-class performances!
