Clear skies, awesome track conditions and 389 keen racers provided a perfect setting for the second round of the East Coast MX Series, presented by Transmoto Dirt Bike Magazine, held in Canberra, March 9-10.

A battle of the titans erupted in the Pro Open class between Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Jay Marmont, Serco Yamaha’s Luke Styke, Daniel McCoy, Cody Mackie, and Nicklas Scott. It was Styke who stole the show with some impressive holeshots, claiming wire-to-wire wins in all three Pro Open motos. Mackie put in an impressive performance for second place, while McCoy finished in third Overall.

Unfortunately, Marmont suffered some mechanical problems during the event and had to retire for the day halfway through the second moto. Styke also dominated the $1000 cash Eliminator and walked away with the money. Defending East Coast champion Corey James took the Overall win in the Pro Lites, only dropping the first moto to Nicklas Scott. Other class winners included Jamie Harvey in the U19 C-Grade Lites, Brad Tyszyk in the +19 C-Grade Lites, Local Canberra boy Troy Tasker in the C-Grade Opens, Suttos Motorex KTM/TeeNCee Grafix Tayla Jones in the Womens, and Paul Novak in the +35C Veterans.

The Mydrade and Bear MX promo girls took turns on the 15 second board, also handing out awards at the presentation. Along with the other stands including Joe’s Motorcycles, SSRacing, TeeNCee Grafix, and Sponsorpoint in the trade alley, MXR&D provided free suspension checks all day, helping riders dial in their bikes. Local businesses, Exceptional Electrical Services, Hayters Sawmill, Lindsay Civil and Power Plus Fuels also contributed to the event. MXPhoto and JCMX films captured the action-packed weekend of racing.

The junior support of the series has been fantastic, with record numbers so far. KTM and Yamaha-mounted riders shared the top spots on the podium for Overall honours. Rhys Budd (KTM Newcastle/MXR&D/TeeNCee/Race Pace/MX Coaching/Motocomposites) swept all six motos to take out the Overall in both of his classes (10-U13 65cc + 9-U12 85cc). Other class winners included Race Pace/MX Coaching rider Max Miller in the 7-U9 50cc class, South Highlands KTM/Race Pace/MX Coaching entry Billy Payne in the 7-U10 65cc class, Suttos Motorex KTM rider Michael Driscoll in the 12-U14 85cc class, and Sixty65Five sponsored David Ustariz in the 14-U16 85cc class. Yamaha-mounted riders Jaiden Corrigan (Junior Lites 125cc two-stroke) and Dylan Heaton (Junior Lites four-stroke) dominated the Junior Lites classes.

East Coast MX officials would like to thank the sponsors (Transmoto Dirt Bike Magazine, MXR&D, InsureMyRide, Mydrade, TeeNCee Grafix, Reality Design, Ipone Oils, Arnette, KTM Australia, Yamaha Australia, Honda Australia, SSRacing, Motoz Tyres, Sponsorpoint, Power Plus Fuels, Bear MX, Exceptional Electrical Services, Hayters Sawmill and Lindsay Civil) as well as the ACTMCC in Canberra, the competitors and the volunteers. Full race results and times are available on the East Coast MX website.

Round 3 of the East Coast MX Series, presented by Transmoto Dirt Bike Magazine, will take place in Maitland, NSW, April 20-21.
