Crusty Demons Cup promises to be spectacular at Australian F1

The inaugural Crusty Demons Cup at this year’s Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne will see the world’s best FMX riders going head-to-head for a share in $50,000 prize money.

Crusty Demons World Touring, in association with the Australian Grand Prix Corporation, is thrilled to announce today that multiple X Games medalists Todd Potter (USA) and Thomas Pagés (FRA) will join three-time X Games Best Trick gold medalist Kyle Loza (USA) and the 2011 X Games Best Trick gold medalist Jackson Strong (AUS) at the 2012 event this March.

The Crusty Demons are renowned for making the impossible happen, stretching their limits and creating death-defying moments. Now, after many years of sold-out arena shows, the Crusty Demons have devised a brand new competition format to be launched over the four days of the 2012 Formula 1™ Australian Grand Prix. With a lineup that includes the best riders from around the world, this is going to be one FMX competition not to be missed.

Local Australian FMX athletes Kain Saul, Luke McNeil, Matthew McFerran, Robbie Marshall and Truman Carroll will join the international contingent. All nine riders will go head-to-head in a massive FMX battle for Best Trick, Best Whip and Best Combo categories and to take home a slice of the $50,000 prize pool and the honour of being crowned champion of the inaugural Crusty Demons Cup.

Joining these athletes at Sunday’s finale show will be the stunning Crusty Babes along with a fire, pyrotechnic and sound show that will leave the fiercest FMX fans on the planet amazed.

The Crusty Demons Cup promises to be four action-packed days of exciting entertainment and great value for money for kids and adults alike…and don’t forget kids under 12 go free.

      RIDER PROFILES

      Kyle Loza (USA)

Known as one of the most innovative riders on the planet, Kyle Loza has won back-to-back-to- back gold for Best Trick at ESPN’s X Games. First in 2007 with a move he invented called “The Volt”, and again in 2008 & 2009 with another of his invented moves “Electric Doom” where he backflips through his arms above the handlebars of the bike.

With a repertoire of speciality tricks, Kyle has left his competition run to X Games only in the past, however in 2012 has chosen the inaugural Crusty Demons Cup at the Formula 1TM Australian Grand Prix to launch his international competition campaign. “I’ve been wanting to take this trick world-wide,” said Kyle. “The Crusty Cup is going to be the perfect opportunity for me to unleash it on the world.”

      Todd Potter (USA)

With one of the best whips in the biz, Todd Potter has won the fans over every year that Best Whip has been a part of X Games (2008 demo, Gold 2009-2010, Silver 2011). With seven Best Trick medals from X Games-related events, Potter is a natural showman who can stick a trick under pressure. While he rarely competes outside of X Games anymore, he still maintains his place in the spotlight and has appeared on episodes of James Stewart’s Fuel TV reality show, “Bubba’s World.”

      Thomas Page´s (FRA)

Tom Page´s created a splash in 2007 when he became the first person in history to land a Double Grab Backflip on dirt. He did it again in 2008 and took second place in Best Trick while also having tricks like the ‘Body Varial’ in his bag. At the Red Bull X-Fighters in Fort Worth, Texas 2009 he went for the first Frontflip in a freestyle competition. While he bailed mid-air, he earned big points from his peers for his tenaciousness and give-it-all attitude.

Thomas may not be as well-known as some of the US riders, but this Frenchman is a talent of the future. He’s an innovator and along with his brother Charly, the two are setting the FMX world on fire. Thomas made his X Games Best Whip debut in 2011 and turned Los Angeles on its head. Thomas brought a new style and flair to his whips not previously seen, but was controversially left out of the podium results.

      Jackson Strong (“Jacko”) (AUS)

Jackson Strong has cemented himself in freestyle motocross history by landing a world-first Frontflip on Australian soil and in X Games competition. Touted as the most dangerous and difficult of all FMX flips, the 20-year-old from Lockhart, NSW, landed a faultless 85ft ramp-to-ramp Frontflip at the final stop of the Crusty Demons regional tour in 2010.

Since joining the Crustys as one of the youngest riders ever at age 13, his career has developed in leaps and bounds and it was the guidance of his mentor Robbie Maddison that saw Jacko come to the fore as one of the sports future stars.

Regularly performing in front of crowds of over 15,000, the then 15-year-old’s first big break came in 2007 when he became the youngest rider to backflip a full-sized motorcycle on the Crusty Demons Unleash Hell tour.
His approach, work ethic and discipline led Brian Deegan to invite him to join the Metal Mulisha group of freestyle motocross riders with a close to cult following in the sport. Strong spent six months at Deegan’s compound in Temecula, CA, practicing and training with the best riders in FMX.

2010 marked a landmark year for Strong who received invitations to compete at the X Games and Red Bull X-Fighters events after successfully landing the Frontflip on the Crusty Demons tour. Unfortunately, injury prevented him fulfilling his promise at the time but redemption was sweet in 2011 where he frontflipped his way to a Gold medal at X Games.
