CONONDALE: KTM’S WALSH BACK ON BOX

Dylan Walsh returned to the ProMX podium with a 3-2 for second overall at Conondale, while teammate Byron Dennis took fifth – leaving both KTM 250SX-F riders tied on 249 points and equal-third in MX2 heading into this weekend’s season finale at Queensland Moto Park.

One round to go, and KTM Racing Team rocks up to the ProMX finale with a bit of momentum behind it. At Conondale on Sunday – the penultimate round of the 2026 Penrite ProMX Championship – Dylan Walsh climbed back onto the podium with a 3-2 scorecard for second overall, his sharpest weekend of the run-in. Teammate Byron Dennis backed him up with 4-6 finishes for fifth overall – and the upshot is that both KTM 250SX-F riders roll into the decider locked together on 249 points, equal-third in the MX2 standings. In MX1, Zac Watson kept chipping away after his heavy Traralgon crash a fortnight ago, piecing together a 9-7 for eighth overall and a climb to sixth in the standings. KTM-supported MX3 rider Jackson Fuller sits fifth heading into the final round.

It all comes down to Queensland Moto Park this weekend, where the MX2 title – led by Honda’s Alex Larwood – is still mathematically alive, and KTM’s two young guns will be scrapping for a podium finish to the series. Here’s KTM Australia’s wrap of Round 7 at Conondale…

Dylan Walsh led KTM Racing Team to second overall in the penultimate round of the 2026 Australian ProMX Championship at Conondale on Sunday, recording a 3-2 moto scorecard while MX2 teammate Byron Dennis also featured inside the top-five. National motocross returned to the sweeping hills of the picturesque Queensland venue, where Walsh immediately found comfort aboard his KTM 250SX-F and secured pole position with a 2:05.048 lap-time.

Launching to the holeshot in Moto 1, Walsh remained in podium contention throughout the opening encounter, ultimately claiming a hard-fought third-place finish. The pace intensified even further in Moto 2, where he claimed second, crossing the line just 3.7 seconds shy of victory. Following Conondale, Walsh is now tied for third in the MX2 standings alongside Dennis heading into this weekend’s season finale at Queensland Moto Park (QMP).

Dylan Walsh:
“It was a good day in Conondale. It was a step closer – I was only a few seconds off the win there in that last one! So, we are making gains, myself and the team, and eventually we will get there. The track was good today and offered plenty of lines compared to the other rounds, which was nice, but yeah, overall I’m happy with my day and looking forward to QMP.”

Also equipped with the KTM 250 SX-F, Dennis qualified eighth before charging to fourth in Moto 1. A sixth-place finish in Moto 2 earned fifth overall for the weekend, as he enters the season finale equal third in the MX2 standings.

Byron Dennis:
“Today was a tough one. The speed was there, but a couple of bad starts made it difficult to get the result we were chasing, and it was a hard track to pass on. We’ll go back to the drawing board this week ahead of QMP and aim to get back on the box to finish the season strong.”

KTM Racing Team MX1 rider Zac Watson posted the eighth-fastest qualifying time to earn a place in the Pole Shootout, where a 2:06.614 lap ranked him seventh in the session. After a heavy crash at Traralgon limited his seat time in the lead-up to Conondale, Watson pieced together a solid 9-7 moto scorecard to finish eighth overall. The result sees him climb to sixth in the MX1 standings heading into QMP.

“It was a bit of a slow day for me at Conondale after my get-off at Traralgon two weeks ago, it has actually been a pretty slow two weeks, just steadily getting back up to speed. I’m happy to get through this weekend with a reasonable result, and looking to build upon this at the final round.”

KTM Racing Team-supported MX3 rider Jackson Fuller recorded 5-9 moto finishes at Round 7, with the result seeing him head into Queensland’s season finale fifth in the 2026 championship standings. The 2026 Penrite ProMX Championship wraps up at Queensland Moto Park on August 1-2, with Walsh and Dennis tied on 249 points and both KTM riders eyeing a podium finish to the series.
