6 years ago | Words: Robbie Warden | Photos: Jayden Fabry

The Conondale Classic Weekend is a gathering of vintage motorcycle enthusiasts, bikes, historical culture and of course riding, centred at the iconic Conondale Green Park on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast. Happening over the Queens Birthday weekend, Friday 7th to Sunday 9th June 2019, the three day Classic Weekend celebrates vintage offroad bikes and everything we love about it!

An expected 500 riders and over 1000 spectators, crew and industry coming to the Conondale Classic Weekend to enjoy non-competitive riding on two MX tracks Pre-78 and Open Pre-95, a vinduro loop, trials area and popular grass track for riding Saturday and Sunday. There’s an open invite to all vintage motorbike riders, supporters and two-wheel fans to get involved with huge line up of riding, workshops, trade village, historical exhibitions, sponsor activations and entertainment all weekend.

Long time Conondale rider and legend of offroad riding, Geoff Ballard said “I’ve ridden Conondale since the early 1980s, rolling into Green Park always created an exciting feeling because it’s an amazing location for both MX and enduro riding in the Sunshine Coast region. My favourite memories from back in the day were riding a Maico GS490 in the early 80s enduros, plus the 1988 4-day tests at Green Park were fantastic.”

The Sunshine Coast Motorcycle Club (SCMCC) was formed in 1972, the first track used for competition was at Image Flat Rd in Nambour, however the first meeting run at Green Park was a round of the “Hang 10” motocross series in 1977. Over the years the SCMCC have built a reputation for running fantastic major events, club days, plus state and national championships in a number of categories including MX, enduros including the legendary Transmoto 6-Hour and trials events, building a strong community of riders and spectators that love the land and club dearly.

The Club’s future plans will be to continue the love and passion for off-road events, bringing the community together to share a unique experience, stories and enjoy riding at one of the best venues in Australia. The Conondale Classic Weekend aim’s to be the biggest event on the SCMCC calendar over the next 5 years with proceeds going directly into the club operating costs and vital infrastructure, critical to keep the venue running world class events for passionate riders.
