AUSSIE MXoN TEAM FUNDRAISER

Australia has never won the coveted Chamberlain trophy that’s bestowed on the winning national team at each year’s Motocross of Nations (MXoN). But with Team Australia finishing a best-ever second place (from 37 nations) at last year’s MXoN in France – and with the team set to be spearheaded by moto phenoms, Jett and Hunter Lawrence, again this year – Aussie supporters are now daring to dream that the 2024 MXoN might just be the year that the boys in green and gold break that MXoN drought.

To help their cause, Motorcycling Australia has organised a massive coaching day to help raise funds for Australia’s 2024 MXoN campaign, with plenty of star power willing to step up and help drive Australia to our first victory at England’s Matterley Basin on October 5-6.

To date, Australia’s best ever MXoN finish was second place last year at France’s legendary Ernee track.

On Saturday, August 3, Queensland Moto Park (QMP) will host the fundraising activities, with a who’s who of Australian motocross confirming their involvement. Tribal elders of the sport and multiple national champs, Stephen Gall, Craig Dack, Jeff Leisk and Glenn Bell will all be on hand to direct riders throughout the day, while current-day heroes such as Dean Ferris, Kyle Webster, Jed Beaton and Todd Waters will provide the rider demonstrations.

CDR Yamaha’s suspension and chassis guru (and former, long-time Australian MXoN Team Manager), Gary Benn, will also be on hand to provide technical knowledge on bike set-up. And when the on-track action is over, there’ll be a Q&A to talk all things MXoN – past, present and future!

The inaugural Team Australia MXoN team in 1984: (L to R) Stephen Gall, Vaughan Style, Trevor Williams and David Armstrong.

To secure yourself a spot on this incredible day, click this link. The cost is $349. Only the first 100 riders will be accepted, and it’s restricted to Senior riders only. MA one day licenses are available online if required.

Also, to keep up-to-date with the 2024 MXstore-supported Team Australia MXoN assault, keep an eye on MXstore’s MXoN-specific Blog pages. Better still, book your spot on the official MX of Nations tour – a VIP experience that’ll be hosted by two of Australia’s biggest names in the sport, Jeff Leisk and Stephen Gall.

AUSTRALIA’S MXoN RECORD

  • Stephen Gall holds a special place in Australian MXoN history, combining with David Armstrong, Trevor Williams and Vaughan Style for the first ever tilt at the prestigious event when it was held in Sweden in 1984.
  • Four years later, in France, Jeff Leisk, Craig Dack and Glenn Bell finished in fourth, which was Australia’s best result in the MXoN until Team Oz posted third places in both 2011 (Chad Reed, Brett Metcalfe and Matt Moss) and 2022 (Jett Lawrence, Hunter Lawrence and Mitchell Evans)
  • In 2023, at France’s legendary Ernee track, Team Australia claimed its best ever MXoN finish to date – a brilliant second place, thanks to the efforts of Jett Lawrence, Hunter Lawrence and Dean Ferris.
