FMX Heaven – The Best Of Schuieville
Matt Schubring is widely acknowledged as a pioneer of Australian Freestyle Motocross. His personal riding achievements cement him as one of the country’s most successful FMX athletes to date. However, his influence on the development of the sport stretches far beyond his own success on the bike. Over the past 10 years Schuie has provided an unrivalled riding environment and level of hospitality to the Australian FMX family that has helped developed the sport to where it is today in Australia.
While his riding definitely influenced development of FMX in Australia it was more so the facilities, enthusiasm and hospitality that Schuie showed the whole industry what has become known as Schuieville. Matt’s personal properties were turned into FMX theme parks and have been the scene of some of Australia’s most groundbreaking riding over the past 10 years.
Perhaps the most influential milestone at Schuieville was the construction of Australia’s first foam pit which opened the Australian FMX scene up to a world of new possibilities and progression. After the foam pit came the infamous 10 pack, a series of dirt jumps inspired by BMX, but applied to a massive scale for FMX.
The Schuieville compound has been host to a wide variety of FMX athletes from visiting international superstars like Nate Adams and Josh Hansen, to up and coming Australian riders who have now turned into international superstars like Blake “Bilko” Williams. While the dream may be over and the legend that is Schuieville draws to a close, its impact on FMX in Australia will be long lasting and remembered as the proving ground for what has been an amazing 10 years of progression.
