FIM World Motocross Championship Draws To A Close

Teutschenthal hosted the final round of the FIM World Motocross Championship over the weekend, with over 40,000 spectators watching Antonio Cairoli and Tommy Searle win the German Grand Prix.

MX1

The MX1 Champion, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Antonio Cairoli, achieved his seventh consecutive Overall at Teutschenthal – his eleventh victory of the season and the 58th of his career. With the MX1 Championship already wrapped up, the Italian was pleased to conclude his season with a 1-1 result. At the beginning of the first moto, Cairoli felt a bit of pain in one of his fingers, but managed to adapt to his riding position, overtake Roczen and Nagl, and head towards the finish line. In the second moto, Cairoli took the holeshot and lead the way until the chequered flag.

His teammate, Ken Roczen, was able to finish second Overall on his debut in the MX1 class with a 3-2 result. The Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rider got a really good start in the first moto, even managing to overtake Cairoli at one stage, but he stalled his bike and lost two positions. Roczen was able to ride consistently behind Cairoli in the second moto, securing the day’s second Overall.

Rockstar Energy Suzuki World’s Clement Desalle was happy with his performance, with his 2-4 result assuring him the third step on the podium. The Belgian rider is still recovering from an injury sustained on his hand, but he’s slowly regaining speed, and is now looking forward to competing next weekend in Lommel at the Motocross of Nations.

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Max Nagl was a little disappointed today, as he would have loved to finish on the podium in front of his home crowd. Nagl managed to take the holeshot in the first moto, but a mid-race crash caused him to drop back to seventh place. The German could not recuperate, so a third place finish in the second moto only secured an Overall fourth at Teutschenthal.

MX2

Team Floride Monster Energy Kawasaki Pro Circuit’s Tommy Searle finished the season with an Overall win, after taking victory in both motos at Teutschenthal. Searle will now swing his leg over a 450cc machine at the Motocross of Nations, and begin to focus on his upcoming season in the MX1 class.

Second Overall was Monster Energy Yamaha’s Zach Osborne, following a 2-4 result. The American was determined to do well at his last MXGP, before heading back to the USA. Osborne’s teammate, Arnaud Tonus, didn’t do so well in qualifying, but a 6-3 result helped him obtain his first podium of the year.

The MX2 Champion, Jeffrey Herlings, didn’t get off to a good start in the first moto, and while he was fighting back and recovering positions, his KTM failed, causing a DNF. In the second moto, Herlings got off to an excellent start, but he admitted that Searle was much faster, and settled for the eighth Overall position.

Glenn Coldenhoff finished ninth and Alexander Tonkov completed the top ten, while his teammate Max Anstie was only able to finish seventeenth.
