Courtney Knight takes first womens national championship of the year

Yamaha Queensland’s Courtney Knight has kicked off her year in impressive style taking the win in the Women’s Australian Dirt Track Championships held at Tamworth over the weekend.

Knight claimed three race wins and a second on her way to take the national championship over Ashleigh Davey in second and Sharnelle Sippel in third.

The event was held at the Tamworth Showground with a huge crowd on hand to witness the first national championships of the year handed out. Knight entered the event to support women’s racing, so was duly excited about taking her first national championship.

“I hadn’t done much dirt track in the past and spent only one day riding a 450, so I really wasn’t expecting much when we arrived,” Knight explained. “But to win the national championship and beat some very good female racers is something that I’m proud of and a great way to start the year.”

“The track was so fast and I’m not used to going that quick on a dirt bike. The first few laps of practice scared me a little, but once I got used to the bike and sliding it around the turns, it became a lot of fun.”

“If any dirt track events don’t clash with the motocross races I do, I would love to do some more,” finishes the victorious Knight.

Knight will refocus her attention to motocross and continue to prepare for the upcoming 2011 season.
