Five Essentials For A Transmoto 8-Hour

4 months ago | Words: Jenna Post | Photos: OK Photo

Heading to a Transmoto 8-Hour? You’re about to experience one of the most fun, team-focused enduro events in Australia. To make sure you don’t get caught out on race day, here are five (maybe seemingly obvious) essentials you shouldn’t forget…

1. Your Bike (Prepped & Race-Ready)

It may seem blatantly obvious, but it all starts with your bike. Make sure it’s in top condition. That means give it some love and do a service well before the event, and get it out for a test ride beforehand. Some bare minimum advice – throw on some new tyres, a fresh air filter, and a fresh oil filter and oil to give your bike the best chance to survive. Of course, give your bike a thorough front-to-back check so nothing else cuts your weekend short. And bring spare parts just in case an issue does arise!

2. Riding Gear (& backups!)

Helmet, boots, gloves, jersey, pants, goggles — you know the drill. But don’t stop there, pack extras if you’ve got ’em. Given that our events don’t have shower facilities, unless your own set-up’s pimped with outdoor shower, you’ll probably appreciate the feeling of putting on a fresh set of clothes at the end of the day more than you think, so keep that in mind when packing your non-gear bag and maybe chuck in more than you think you’ll need.

3. Pit Set-up

This isn’t just about the bike. A solid shade tent, chairs, tool kit, a full esky and even a battery-powered fan. If you’re not one of the many Ironman riders on the bike for the full eight hours, you’ll appreciate a comfortable set-up when you’re in spectator-mode.

4. Personal Fuel

Transmoto 8-Hour events are tough, even still when you’re sharing the load with three of your mates. You’ll be burning serious calories out there, so it is absolutely essential to stay fuelled with high-energy snacks, electrolyte drinks and solid meals. Dehydration and fatigue will catch up fast if you’re not proactive – especially if it’s a hot one.

5. Your Sense of Humour

You can count on that something will go probably not go your way. Whether it’s a crash, mechanical issue or even a crucial or slow transponder swap, Transmoto 8-Hour events are as much about fun as they are about racing. Laugh it off, enjoy the chaos, and make it a day to remember.
