AUSTRALIA’S FIRST ISDE WIN

2 years ago | Words: Andy Wigan | Photos: Mark Kariya

When it comes Australia’s representative sporting teams, everyone seems to have an opinion. Issues such as who is selected on the national team and how those selections are made are inherently controversial. But questions about how those teams are funded – and how much funding they receive – is usually the most contentious issue of all.

Case in point: the loud and often irate response to an article we posted a couple of weeks back – called “Moto-Matildas Fly Solo For 2023 ISDE” – about Motorcycle Australia’s (MA) decision to only send a Women’s team to the 2023 International Six Days Enduro (ISDE) in Argentina this November.

To shed more light on the 2023 ISDE situation and MA’s decision to only send a Women’s team, MA’s CEO Peter Doyle has agreed to speak with Transmoto in the next week, so stay tuned for that follow-up article.

In the meantime, though, let’s all take a deep breath and immerse ourselves in a happy ISDE memory – the history-making 2015 ISDE in Slovakia, when the Aussies not only clinched their first ever Senior World Trophy team win – the Holy Grail of enduro racing – but also clean-swept the Junior and Women’s classes at that Slovakian ISDE. This Editorial article first appeared in Issue #54 (Jan-Feb, 2016) of Transmoto Dirt Bike Magazine…

INSIDE THE 2015 ISDE

If you want to dive deeper and revisit all the anguish, angst and politics of that historic Team Australia win in 2015 (decided months later after an FIM legal hearing), here’s the feature article about the 2015 ISDE, which appeared in Issue #53 (Nov-Dec, 2015) of Transmoto Dirt Bike Magazine…
