ELI TOMAC OUT FOR 2023 SEASON

3 years ago | Words: Matt Bernard | Photos: Feld Motor Sports, Inc.

Eli Tomac’s season-ending injury occurred at the Denver round of the 2023 AMA Supercross Championship. While leading the race, Tomac’s left ankle was stressed during a jump take-off, causing him to lift his foot from the peg while airborne. Despite landing safely and managing to slow down for the remaining rhythm section, Tomac was in obvious discomfort and pulled off the track.

After being assessed by the on-site Alpinestars Medical Rig, the news broke that Tomac had ruptured his Achilles tendon, which would rule him out of the remainder of the season. The injury is a significant setback for Tomac, who was leading the AMA Supercross Championship at the time and recently announced he would compete in the AMA Motocross Nationals as well.

“It’s hard to really put it in words, to be honest. Obviously, this is a tough one for Eli and the whole team. The day was going really well, we had a good qualifying and a good heat race and were leading the main event, and then the rug got pulled out from under us. Our first thoughts are with Eli, and we wish him a speedy recovery. This is, unfortunately, part of the sport, but it’s still a tough one.” – Jeremy Coker, Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing 450 Team Manager

Achilles tendon injuries can be challenging to recover from, and the road to full recovery is often a long and demanding one. This injury could have broader implications for his career, and sources suggest that the 2023 season was already on track to be his last of professional competition.

Could we have just seen the last professional race for Eli Tomac?
