Ferris Is Back … & Back On Blue!

Yep, the rumours are true. Despite retiring for a second time at the end of the 2022 season, three-time Australian Motocross Champion, Dean Ferris, has confirmed that he’ll be back racing in season 2023.The 32-year-old has partnered with Brisbane Motorcycles Yamaha to race the all-new 2023 Yamaha YZ450F on the newly formed Brisbane Motorcycles Yamaha team, competing in the Australian ProMX Championship as well as various local and international events.

“After the final round of the 2022 ProMX series at Coolum, my family and I set off to travel Australia in the caravan,” explains Ferris. “It was great for the six weeks or so, as I honestly really needed the break. After a couple months on the road, though, I started getting itchy feet. When you wake up with all day, nowhere to be, and complete freedom to choose what to do, it becomes really clear what your values are. After a month of choosing travel, all I could think of was getting back to the grind and improving on the bike. Sounds crazy, but I love it. I love my training, I love riding and I love racing. I’d been in contact with James Mutton at Brisbane Motorcycles about getting a 125 to play on, and when I mentioned that I was considering pulling a ‘Johnny Farnham’ and coming back to race, he jumped on the idea. Next minute, we were putting together a mini team that allows me the freedom and flexibility to hand select my preferred equipment and products. It is important to me that I can ride to my ability and push my past limits, and that means personalising my set-up to suit me and my style. I’ve also learned from the last years and adjusted my program to better fit my family’s needs so I can be both the best father and athlete I can. I’m excited about the opportunity that has come about and the chance to reach another level. Racing’s in my blood; what else can I say?” Ferris concluded.

Thrilled about the prospect of joining forces with the multiple Aussie champ, Brisbane Motorcycles’ James Mutton said, “When we had the opportunity to work with Dean, we couldn’t say ‘YES’ fast enough. Our goal as a business is to be the best motorcycle dealership company in the country, so to partner with Dean, who also competes at this level, was a no-brainer. We are excited about the collaboration and the value it will generate for our existing and future off-road customers.”

Check out this 30+ minute podcast with Dean and James, covering how the two met, all aspects of Dean Ferris’s 2023 campaign, and some other interesting stories about the enigma that is Dean Ferris.
